2.3 Rebuild

I am needing to put new main and rod bearings in my 92 2.3 ranger. Is this possible to do without pulling the whole engine? I have not spun a bearing but its starting to tick on the number one cylinder and I have narrowed it down to the #1 cylinder rod or main bearing. Also, has anyopne attempted this? If so, how bout some tip and tricks? Anyone know the best place to order a quality re ring or rebuild kit?

no way around it, you have to pull the motor to pull the pan.

That sounds like fun! Well, maybe I will just put a 302 in it instead of the old 4 cylinder.

I'd assume that you are filthy rich and don't care that the price of gas is going to be rising steadily for the next, oh, thirty years...till we run out...

I've heard that the 5.0 doesn't use much more than a 2.3...as long as you don't drive it hard...and for that very reason I'd stick with the 2.3...maybe consider a turbo charged version of it and you will have the beast of both worlds...

Very true. I am def. not rich. Far from it as a matter of fact. Went to the junk yard today and found a ton of goodies. Got an inst. cluster with tach for a 4 banger, a chrome front and rear bumpers along with matching grill and light bezels, aluminum wheels, and a couple other little parts like lock knobs. All for $100! I also stumbled across a turbo coupe with a running engine. The said they would take 300 for the engine but wouldnt be able to pull it for 3 weeks as they are really behind on things. So I gave them $100 to hold it for me. All in all I think I did remarkably well. Now I have a really fancy "base" model ranger.

BTW, if anyone needs parts off a 92 or older ranger, let me know cuz the junkyard I was at has about 6 or 8 of them in stock. They are pretty complete too. They also have just as many bronco 2's.

Great find on the T-Coupe...if it has an auto tranny I'd suggest getting that too...if you can...but it you have a good transmission already then it will bolt right up...just a matter of whether the turbo engine is the same or not...

I love junk yards...especially when you find treasures...
