Ok, so Crutchfield's website tells me that there's a 6x8 speaker in the rear of my 89 Ranger Supercab. Is this the case? And, is there enough room back there for me to do a little trimming to fit a 6x9 speaker?

Thanks

i wouldnt use a 6x9 speaker...6x8s sound better to me.

i just put some alpine type s 6x9s' and they sound good. any things better then the factory speakers.

you justhave to mod the hole a lil bit...nothing major tho..

Yes. The originals were 6x8s. You can fit a 5x7 or 6x8 with no modification or 6x9s with a little trimming I am told.

yep.^^^^^^not alot of trouble but its not gonna be a big enough difference to cut a panel tho.

ok thanks alot guys.

i was just a little concerned about the depth, thats all. some website said that 6x9's are usually substantially deeper than 6x8's. and i figure that i'd like to run 6x9's if possible since theyre more readily available.

There's some kick ass 6x8's out there. I just picked up a pair of Pioneer's from Crutchfield last week with bass that will blow your face off. Another pair of those and I actually might skip a sub.....

oh my bad, i was refering to mounting depth, not tonal depth haha. im sure theres hardly any sound difference between the two.

No I knew what you meant about depth. I just thought when you said that 6x9's were more readily available that you meant there weren't as many good options for 6x8.
I was just pointing out that the ones I got produce huge bass....

for sure.....6x9s can be found just about anywhere but then again anyplace that has quality 6x9s will have 6x8s.....Digital Designs makes a KICKASS 6x8 as well as ID and Diamond Audio.

i think i saw those the other day... TS-A6872R? i was very impressed! i think im going to go for them since they'll drop right in and they actually sounded better than a few other comprably priced 6x9's i was looking at.

No I got these: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSD802P/Pioneer-Premier-TS-D802P.html?tp=92

They're the TS-D802P 2-way. The bass they produce is absolutely unreal, all the way down to 35hz. The mids and highs are outstanding as well - no compromises.

I'll be writing a full review at the Crutchfield site in the next couple days. I wasn't initially planning on getting 2-way speakers, but just look at the specs and you'll see why I decided on these. The ONLY minor con I can possibly think of about them is the sensitivity is a little lower than other comparable speakers, but it's a non-issue for me.
