rattling cat

ok guys i need some help ive got an 2007 ranger with the 3.0 and autotrans and my drivers side cat rattles a bit when you first start it up then after a few secs it will stop or till the motor gets warmer. so my question is how much would 2 highflow cats cost and to be installed im sure that the other cat more than likely isnt to far bhiend the other one so i want to change them both to stay in the clear will there be any difference in sound or performance with 2 new highflow cats?

Why don't you take it to the dealership and have them replaced for free?

Emissions components actually have quite the warranty on them. Get it checked at the dealership.

my warranty ran out at 35,000miles can they still replace it for free? and i bought this truck used

The EPA mandated warranty on emissions items (PCM & cats for sure, various other sensors on different models, typically O2s) is 8 years 80,000 miles on all vehicles that age. That took effect in 2003 (for the 2003 or 2004 model year one, which I'm not sure) if I'm not mistaken, before that it was 5 years 50k.

Dealer could clear it up for you and you can give us the specifics I'm unsure of. But I'm 100% sure that cats are covered in that warranty for 8/80 on your '07.

One thing I'm unsure of, whether the EPA makes them change it just cause it is rattling, or only if it isn't functioning. They may try to dodge the repair if they can test the emissions at the exhaust and the cat is working seeing as Ford eats the cost on such items, and if they test the cat and it works, they force the dealer to eat it.

The exhaust on these engines flows plenty well enough to exhaust everything the engine breathes in. The difference going to high flow cats would be minimal. I have no idea of the cost.

P.S. running with a miss and really really realy bad gas is the only ways I know of killing a cat...

well i called a local exhaust shop with a good rep. and they also told me about the 8year or 85,000 mile warranty and they said it covered all ford truck whether u r the first second or third owner and then i called the local ford stealership and they told me that it was my heat shields well funny thing about that is to make sure it wasnt them i took them off about 2 days ago to check and it still rattles and the guy totally BSd me and told me that my 2007 MIGHT be under the warranty and they would have to check to see if it was my cat well i can put my welding gloves on and start the truck and feel the cat rattling and i told him this and he still kept tellinbg me it wasnt my cat and it was something else

It's more than just Ford Trucks, it's every road vehicle sold in the US. I kinda figured they would try to squirm out of it if the cat isn't clogged/dead. Might call corporate and tell them the issue and they may schedule you an appointment to have it taken care of at a local dealer of your choice. You might also want to pay that reputable exhaust shop you mentioned to do an inspection and put on paper that it IS your cat rattling and fax that to them.

Keep in mind that the dealer is not at fault for a faulty cat and just doesn't want stuck with the bill, if you handle it from the corporate end you may have better results cause if corporate schedules the appointment, the dealer knows they are going to be paid for the repair regardless.
