2.9 to 4.0

I have a 87' Ranger with the 2.9, and am considering the 4.0 swap. I have a 97' Explorer that's the donor. My question is will the computer from the Explorer work in my Ranger?, since the Explorer is an automatic , and my Ranger is a 5 speed. I figure I can just use everything from the Explorer to swap over to Ranger, but I want ti keep my 5 speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it works like it does with mustangs, you ought to find yourself a 5-speed explorer ECM

wiring an EEC5 management sstem into a gen1 ranger is going to be an absolute nightmare...

Talk to Bird, he should have some pointers for you.

've done a 4.0 swap into an '87 but I only went to 1993 Explorer
wiring which is still EEC4 and shares the same basic component layout as the earlier Rangers.
