First time Ford owner

Been a Chevy owner all my life, but I just picked up a '94 Ranger XLT ext. cab 4x4 at an auction. 164k on it and it needs a pile of U joints, a set of radius arm bushings, valve cover gaskets, and a lot of simple upkeep that hasn't been done, but its a pretty good truck. It also needs a set of 31-10.50's to replace the wimpy Screw-niroyals on it. Just here for some good information on the Rangers to help make a kick-ass low-dollar ride out of it. I have a lifetime of GM knowledge... time to catch up on the Ford side of things.

It's always good to see what the otherside holds also (Ford vs. Chevy)! I would have bought a Chevy, but I didn't find any deals as good as the one with my Ranger.
 
Funny... but the farther I dig into this thing, the more I figure out that the previous owner (or whoever he had doing is work) should never, EVER touch a wrench again! Oh well... it was a $450 purchase so I can afford to put some cake into it. Can't get rid of all the driveline vibration even after all new U joints... the back still has the shudder... I'm thinking the ID10T bent the ears when he changed the rear rear u-joint. Oy!
 
The shop manual has a couple of pages on drive-line vibration and check lists. One that comes to mind right away is to rotate the rear flange 45 or 90 degrees.

I already rotated the center joint to make sure it was in proper phase/balance and that didn't do a thing. I'll have to try the rear flange and see if that helps at all. The only joint that had been replaced prior to now was the rear on the rear driveshaft, so you'd think they would have only taken the rear shaft section off. Hard to say. Never underestimate the incompetent when it comes to screwing something up.
