I'm really into Aerostars, and I'm considering finding one with a manual transmission and then massaging around 210 hp and 275 ft·lbf out of the 4.0 ohv engine (did they ever come with the 5-speed AND the 4.0?)
What I wanna know is if the transmission would be able to handle that. And if not, is there anything that could be done? I guess theoretically I could put in the HD transmission, but then the shifter would be way too far back, right? Or maybe I could put the internals from the HD into the Star's stock transmission casing? I dunno! Help me out!
And also just for kicks, does anyone know if the SOHC 4.0 would bolt into the Aerostar?

Cut and mod and anything will fit BUT is it worth it ?? A M5OD will be strong enough.

SOHC in a Areostar ?? No chance. A regular 4.0 was tight enough never mind a SOHC, the intake is much wider/larger than a OHV.
