Good Luck, Catskill Mountain Park (Rt23 East Winham to Ashland/Red Falls on the northeast side, Rt42 Lexington, Rt28 Fleishmanns, Rt30 Margaretville to Shinhopple on the Northwest, Rt 17 from East Branch to Livingston Manor then just northeast of Rt17 and then Rt52 to Ellenville, on the southwest, from just northwest of Rt209 in Ellenville back to the I-87 in Kingston on the southeast and just west of I-87 from Kingston to Leeds for the eastern boader) is a mix of private and state land. As for good 4x4 wheeling up on the mountain, only if you know someone that owns property. We have a set of quads but do not do much with the ATVs due to DEC & NYC Water as you are not allowed to ride on state land up their. In addition;
"New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection has a comprehensive watershed protection program which focuses on both protective and corrective initiatives, to ensure that its Catskill/Delaware reservoir system, the source of 90% of the supply’s daily demand, remains unfiltered and sustains its extraordinary high quality" and allows only light use activities in limited areas by permit only.:annoyed:

Yeah, I figured as much with the reservoirs that close to everything. I remember a friend of mine that had a cottage on columbia lake tell me to stay away from the cannonsville reservoir cause the dec are jerks about anybody being close to their property with motor vehicles, but theres major state rts. that runs the ridge of all of em........ but thats all ok, no chance of a major crash with chemical spills and littering that could happen to their unfiltered water.

It sucks cause it looks like soo much good land with sick potential there.

I have been fishing the Schoharie for decades and can remember fishing the bend just west of the Rt23 bridge in Prattsville, the trout run up out of the Gilboa and in to that bend in early spring. Now you have to have a DEC permit to fish down stream of the bridge!!!!!!!!!!!!!:annoyed:
