Is a 4.0 2wd 4.0 1993 tranny interchangeble with a 1994 4wd 4.0 tranny

Are all a4ld transmissions interchangable. I have noted the 4.0 version is built stronger.

No. Different output shafts.

No.
2.3L and 3.0L bellhousings are different than 2.9/4.0L. The internals are somewhat built lighter/heavier duty depending on engine. For example, 2.3 is lighter duty compared to the 4.0L version.

Also, 85-87 A4LD has different wire harness than the 88-95. About the only real interchanging worth mentioning is a 90-95 4.0L will work in place of a 2.9L A4LD from 88-92 but not the other way around.

And 4x2 will not fit 4x4 and vise versa.
