i just got a 96 ranger 4x4 with the 3.0 .i really dont know much about this motor like i do the 4.0 an 2.9. what do i need to look out for with this 3.o? and how bad is it to do a 4.o swap? or should i just find a truck with the 4.o in it. i just want some thin with more power, im buildin this one up , runnin 35'' or 36'' tires so i want alil more power then what i have now. this 3.o dont have much more then my 2.9. thanks mike

Swaping it for a 4.0 recquires quite a few things with it. The computer harness, the computer itself, the trany, etc. I suggest You stick wit this motor for it is a very good work horse.
There is a few cheap tricks you can do to this motor that will not cost you a hefty penny and will teach you a few things.
A bigger throttle body from an Escape Duratech 3.0 motor (it is 10 mm bigger in diameter). 1.7 Rockers from a 5.0 (as long as the are for the 5.16 stud). A better breathing air filter.
Oh! And a Flowmaster Exhaust that will make it exhale better will also give an attitude sound to it.
Probably the most expensive cheap trick there is is a computer programmer at a cost of about $450.00.
My 3.0 has given me a lot of satisfaction so far and I use to do a lot of off road racing.

nice thanks.it has flowmaster full pipen on, brand new and has a cold air in take. i new with these 3.o. thanks ill pull up more bout this motor then. mike
