went to start my truck and just one click ( 93 4.0 supercab ) I checked the battery and it was good so tried to crank from the silanoid and just one click must be the starter right, I changed the started and hooked up the battery and just one click from the noid and then smoking wires ??????? every thing is hooked up correct.

Bad ground? Bad wire? Bad Starter (it happens even to new ones). Is it possible you somehow seized the engine or filled a cylinder with fuel?

didn't seize anything caught it in gear and drove home to fix

That's good then. I would look at grounds and have that new starter tested.

could the batttery wires go bad on the inside there is a little corossion on the out side of them

It's possible. I have had otherwise good looking wires be green on the inside.

got my truck fixed today it was the fuseablelink on the power battery cable that burned. what happened was where the small wire hooks onto the starter its a eyehook and nut not a plug like the factory starter, it was touching the starter casing and burned that small wire up the siloniod and to the battery changed the power wire and all is well now. thanks for the help
