any easy way to tell if thease are shot? the thought browsed my mind today and realized i didnt know the answer

Lock the t-case in 4WD and turn one front axle by hand. The other side should turn smoothly in the opposite direction. (you can also check for this with both front wheels jacked up and the hubs locked).
Symptoms of blown spider gears are usually pretty obvious... Most commonly no power will be transferred from the driveshaft to the axle shafts if the gears are broken, it'll just spin.
