Wheel bearing question


Completely clean them & inspect. I personally wouldn't do it but if there are no blue spots or cracks & scarring it should be ok.
 
There cheap, in fact most bearing come with them, and they're easy to replace, just do it.
 
Well, i had the bearings packed but there is a humm, like a big mud tire going down the road, you can hear it more when stopping. Any ideas.

+1 It's a crap shoot to use old races with new bearings. Sometimes it works ok, but sometimes:icon_thumby: you roll snake eyes which is what it sounds like you did.
 
The hummm is not a good sign on a recently worked front end...don't the bearings come with new races? I know the rotors do...and putting new bearings to me included new rotors...so I can't remember where they came from...

I'd redo it with the new races...and also make sure the nut is tightened properly...if it is not you could end up losing the front wheel...
 
Are you sure your vendor didn't pull the races out of your bearing set, and try to "jack" you by selling them to you separately? BASITIGES IF they DID!

I did not get new ones i had the old ones packed.
 
For what it's worth; I've driven out the old races with a brass drift and after the drift broke, I used whatever I can find to knock'em out and install. They've held up fine!
 
when going new usually a good idea to go all the way with most things.

So if I read correctly, you just had the old bearings packed and no new parts were installed. In that case if there was no hum prior to repacking, it's likely that the repacked bearings have the wrong preload on them (ie., too tight or too loose).

You might want to have their adjustment rechecked.:icon_cheers:
