I am starting to put a few pennies aside for the day my a4ld takes a dump. It works fine now, a little hard and inconsistent in the shift but once it warms up its all good. How much does it cost to have it rebuilt with stronger components? assuming I drop it and pop it back in my self?

Probable to do a rebuild properly, new or rebuilt convertor, transgo shift kit, reconditioned valve body (or really clean yours) and preferably start with a 4.ol a4ld core, or at least upgrade to the 4.0 low roller clutch, double wrap od band, new adjustable modulator, and the 4.0l od clutch. Cost, around $500 for the stuff.

Said od clutch, but its the forward clutch thats better. I also seem to remember a slightly beefier od roller one way clutch setup also.

What Fordman said about parts is true. A good place I found for parts is http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/ . You might also want to look into some of the Sonnax parts as they to will help in the reliability of your rebuild.
