Aod question

So my truck has a c-6 and it gets 16.6mpg and I have an aod thinking about swaping with the c-6 but the aod is computer controled right? Would I need the harness and compuuter from the donor or could I make my cruuent 89 5.0 wireing work? Thanks a lot guys
 
The AOD is not computer controlled, you will be fine. It does have the throttle-valve (TV) cable that functions as a kickdown type shift controller that would need to be attatched to the throttle, but it's quite simple.
 
Oh nice! Yeah a buddie of mine said that it could hurt the tranny if I don't hook up the tv cable? Thanks for ur help I feel better about swaping now
 
I believe the TV cable controls the line pressure. It's a very simple install.
 
It's simple install but has to be adjusted properly, that's where people end up ruining the trans.

There is a very simple set up procedure for using the AOD. It requires a gauge set up to do it properly. There is a write up on here I believe. If you have EFI then its super simple to hook up. The aod will get great mileage. Mine is perfect in my ranger. As long as you make sure you have an AOD and not an AOD-E. The AOD-E does need the computer. The AOD doesnt.

So what if you use a carb? Then how do you hook it up?
 
Every Carb I have seen says it cannot be used with a ford AOD. It will say very specifically in the instructions not to. On my holley on the left side where the throttle cam thingy is, it has a small hole on the bottom of the cam. I put it on that and connected it then got it set. It works just fine. No idea why they say it cant be done

On my engine it is attached to the throttle cable itself, has an electrical connection and a vacuum canister. Unless that is the cruise control.
 
I believe that may be the cruise control. My TV cable has no electrical connection or vacuum canister. The TV cable has a small nut on the end of it to adjust it with.

I thought about connecting it to my throttle cable but the throttle pulls towards the firewall and the TV cable needed to pull next the core support
 
just curious the aod and the aode to tell the difference isnt there a e on the pan or somthing?
 
The AOD-E is uhh well... Im not quite sure. I know it is computer controlled so I guess there would be a plug somewhere for the computer? Im honestly not sure. The AOD says "METRIC" on the bottom of the pan. Not sure about the AOD-E
 
Upon further review, mine has a throttle cable, the cruise cable and kickdown linkage. Not a cable. It does say METRIC on the pan.
 
I know you can get a linkage setup for the AOD but as far as I know they all came with a cable. Its like a throttle cable with a wire inside of a sleeve
