tranny went out in 93 ranger, will a 2.5l out of a 1999 bolt up to my motor?

Yes a 2.5L will fit with some changes made. Here is info I got from a salvage interchange index. These are the one that will fit your truck, provided that it is a 4-cyl 2wd.These below will fit directly.

MAZDA B-2300 1994-1997 M.T.; 4x2
RANGER 1988-1989 M.T.; 4x2, 4 cyl
RANGER 1990-1997 M.T.; 4x2, 4-140 (2.3L)

These below will fit by switching the extension housing and shifter stub.

MAZDA B-2500 1998-2001 M.T.
RANGER 1998-2001 M.T.; 4x2, 4-153 (2.5L)

Foot Note
Caution. Clutch slave cylinder available with two different color connectors. '88-89 uses blue & '90 and newer use gold, switch as needed.

One other thing to add to his post is that you need to also swap the plastic speedometer drive gear, ball bearing and clip off of the end of the shaft on your transmission. Also you don't need to swap the shifter stub if you have the later model shifter. I have also seen a shifter stub on a 97 before that was made to fit both style shifters but this is the ONLY one I have ever come across so the possibility of using your shifter on the same stub is very slim.

It's actually better to use the later shift lever that matches the "Stub"

this positions the shift knob back about 1.5" so you don't have to reach for 5th gear quite so much.

I was actually going to mention that too but I posted not long after I woke up and didn't get to finish my coffee yet.
