My uncle recently did some trading and got a 2000 ranger that my brother use to own but now it has about 300,000 miles on it and has antifreeze in the oil. So basiclly I would like to know what year 4.0 will work for this truck. Lets say a guy has real many 4.0's of different years of rangers/exploders with no wiring on them, I want to know what years will bolt right in and everything will plug into a 2000 ranger? I beleive the engine code is an X, and it shouldn't matter but it's a 5 speed 4x4 extended cab 4 door. and as always thanks for any info.

2000 was the last year they had pushrod OHVs for the 4.0s. That leaves the question of whether the newer engines will "bolt right in" or if they require some "tweaking."

95 and up shuld plug nd play i think its 95-01 that are all the same. or sumtin like that
