01 tailights on 97

im trying to put 01 taillights on a 97 truck.the taillights fit but as you guys may already know,the 97 rangers have three bulbs(reverse,turn,parking/stop)and the 01's have only two bulbs(revese,turn/parking/stop).has anyone ever tryed this conversion or know how to do this? any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks
 
first welcome to TRS :icon_thumby: and yeah some guys have made that conversion including me, if your truck has the trailer lights connector under the rear bumper (driver side) then u can take the stop/turn signal from there, piece of cake, just cut the stop wire from your stop/running light bulb and connect the trailer wire there, by the way u 're gonna use 2 wires from the trailer connector, green and yellow wires, thats for right and left, check em out to see which one is R and L.
if you dont have the trailer connector...then i know some one who did it with out it and he could help u out :icon_thumby:
 
Though it may seem odd this is an "exterior" question.

Yes, it's dealing with taillights, but it's the motivation for your question
is at issue... you want a different LOOK.

This is why most of the "Will '07 headlamps fit my '96?" are in exterior.

This particular forum is about auxilary lighting, the required wiring, modification
of wiring to say... make your fog lamps come on with your parking lights instead
of your low beams ANY discussion of HID or LED lights....

the idea is to get that type of discussion in ONE place instead of divided between exterior, interior or electrical.

The taillight lenses are a "pure appearance" issue... you see my logic here?

It's simple the BULBS are no different in the later tail lights so it isn't a wiring issue.

they don't function differently so it isn't an illumination issue.

It's a "do they fit the sheet metal" issue so it's an exterior discussion.

Do you understand now?

dang!! quite big analisys u made :D yeah i understand now, but modding the wiring to make 'em properly should be an electrical issue right?
