i have 2000 ford ranger 3.0 4x4..it has switch on dash it goes in 4l and 4h it shows it goes in 2 h but seems still locked in 4 high..i took electric motor off transfer case it works also showed it was in 2 high..i read one forums that showed how manually on years 98 to 2000 but my axle goes clean threw..looks like a 32mm nut..is there any other way manually do it to mine..any advice..thanks chris

lets start by explaining the problem more clearly. like with short sentances and periods.

your truck is not shifting back into 2wd.
you pulled the shift motor and it showed something.

you want to know how to shift the case manually.

i think i got it.

You have fulltime hubs, meaning your front drivetrain is always spinning. There are no manually locking hubs for this setup.

It sounds like your transfer case is not switching back to 2WD. If you check our Tech Library, there is an excellent article on removing, inspecting, and cleaning the transfer case shift motor. I would suggest doing this procedure.

Go do this. Step on the brake. Shift the trans to neutral. Turn the switch to 2H to 4H to 4L, stopping for a few seconds on each position. Does the dash lamps match the switch position???
