On my 99 whenever I release the parking brake it never comes all the way up and I need to pull the release lever a second time and use my foot to lift it all the way up. Any ideas or suggestions on how to correct this would be appreciated!

Thanks
Brian

maybe lubbing the pedal device?, or maybe the return spring si too worn out, yry the lubbing first, mine improved when i did it, it was to hard to disengagem now it works like new, also the pedal is softer to engage, hope it helps:D

how often does everyone use theirs?

i never seem to have to park on hills.. and i don't use on flat ground.. so i VERY RARELY use mine.

i always use it, i cant stand to see how the truck sways just being in the 1st gear... and with autos even worst to me, besides i believe the auto trans could get damaged because of letting it in P with out the e brake on hills, at least my prev car had the gear shifter stuck for letting it that way, so i use the parking brake always

so it actually affects a transission negatively if you don't use your parking break, even on flat ground?

well, im havent technically and scientifically proven this..but at least in my case doing it messed with the trans. i drove some good amount of auto cars(not trucks) and all of them did the same, before a long time the lever seemed stuck and hard to shift when being on P with out the e-brake in up or down hills. so to avoid some damage to your trans in the future u should use it always:icon_thumby: for me its just a habit now, i do it for instinct like i said, i dont like how the truck sways when just being in gear, even in flat ground, not to mention handling heavy cargo in the bed and the truck moving back and forth:annoyed:

As I understand it, the parking pawl is $10 part on a thousand dollar transmission; a tiny piece of metal keeping a 3000 lb truck from moving. On flat ground, I'm sure it's fine, but on a hill, that's the only thing keeping your truck from becoming a runaway bullet.

Most manufacturers do not recommend relying solely on the pawl when parking the vehicle. It's better thought of a safety valve rather than the first line of defense.

yeah thats why i always put 1st gear(owners manual says so) or reverse and the e-brake
