I have a 2002 4x4 with 4.0L and automatic. Just had the fluid changed. For the most part it runs fine and shifts smooth, but Ive noticed 2 times in the past week after driving on the highway for a while and then stop, when I go again it doesnt grab and then bangs into gear. After that, no problems and it shifts fine. Again its only happened twice, but if its a telltale, id like to get it diagnosed early. Thanks!

I am having similar problems.

Looks like your "tanny" [sic] isn't the only thing slipping:)

The tranny in mine began to do this about a year ago. It is intermittent and usually happens when going from forward to reverse (or vice versa) or quickly accelerating. I doesn't appear to be creating any other problems, however, I am concerned. I have heard from many people that these Ford automatics are somewhat noted for being short lived.

just start doing that after the trans service ??? Could have forgotten the o-rings on the filter. Also famous for blowing out valve body gaskets although your truck should have the upgraded gasket/separator plate installed already from the factory.
