question on sub cover

so on my 8in sub i have a little face plate cover. sometimes during a song with lots of bass it will pop. so i was wondering if i could just saw it off. its just random plastic over the speaker and the speaker is hitting it. i know not to have my bass up to loud or else -rip- new sub. but is it ok if i take off that plastic cover?

i wanna say yes but i would like to see what your looking at. if its like a built in grill guard you can. but a pic would be handy before i say yes
