basic questio where exactly is it located on the 94 4.0? thanks in advance to any help

It's mounted in the firewall, drivers side outboard of the steering column.

Most easily accessed by unbolting the plastic inner fender and going at
it through the wheelwell.

ok any different on the 93? or is it the same on most 93-97 rangers
i have a 93 and my buddy has a 94 and his is throwing him all sorts of codes so he had the idea of switching out computers to see if that was it before he bought a new one i dont wanna mess my truck up so i thought if i put his ecu in my truck i could see if it was messed up with out messing up my truck . what do you think

the 93 and 94 are in the same place... when they switched to OBDII they moved them in the middle of the firewall above the engine

The '93 and '94 computers MAY be different.

a 1993 is a Non-EGR engine with "Batch fire"

SOME 1994's are SEFI with EGR

They MAY be the same, but they may not...

Just wanted to point out that if they do not have the same transmissions that will cause other codes to pop up. If you put an auto ecu in a truck with a manual transmission it will be set up for the shift points. From my experience I had an explorer and a ranger both with the same 4.0 and M50D trans and the ECU part numbers were different. Also when I did some research every year has a different part number even if they have same engine/trans
