Just changed timing belt on 90 2.3L. Every time I try to crank the truck it idles real high for a second then dies. I have the haines manual and have read over this section several times and can't seem to get the timing set correct. I lined the camshaft triangle up with the mark on the engine case, lined up the aux. shaft triangle at 12 o'clock, and turn the crankshaft to tdc. Put the belt on and truck idles high and dies. I have tried to set the crankshaft to 10 deg. btdc and 20 deg btdc and the samething. Does anyone know where I maybe going wrong?

You need to set the timing at 10deg. with the spout pulled.
It sounds like you may have dissconnected a large vacuum hose in the process.
Look the engine compartment over real good.

'90 is DIS, can't really do anything to the timing...

did you adjust or bump the crank sensor at all? I know mine is screwed up from the crank pulley being loose for a while... it's really screwing with a couple things...

Turns out before I knew the timing belt was broke, I checked the injectors. When I took the intake off, I broke the gasket. I tried to make it work but keep getting problems with it idling to high. Replaced the gasket and now running good. Man something so simple can really cause a headache. Thanks for the input.
