The report did say it was cladded in Asia Mazda sheet metal to mask the truck shape & look but 90% of the real truck is hiding under it.

90% of the truck Is mazda, the other 10%= replace the front end and rebadge it as Ford Ranger
the mazda BT-50 is a good truck, has good styling, the interior is one of the best designs they have, only down side is the bumpy rough ride, the 2.5 turbo engine it offers here, is quite reliable and has good power, it would be interesting see how it goes with the American v6 engines :D
the top end model has 16" rims, electronic locking hubs and manual transfer case for the 4x4, power everything, and 4W ABS the back seat isnt as comfty as u would expect

other little things that have to be Americanized: the reg cab comes with long bed only, no short bed option, i hope they can offer the freestyle cab( ext cab with 4 doors), the e-brake position under the dash to a pedal like the normal Ranger, the 2DW model height..its lower than the current American Ranger and the 6 nut rims to 5 nut like the American

We can see that the windshield has been raked at a steeper angle on this test mule - a move that should help to improve the truck's aerodynamics in the name of fuel efficiency. The wheelbase appears longer and the track wider than the current Ranger, with a heavy-duty rear differential and four-wheel drive appearing to be fitted to this prototype.
I can't wait to start getting some real info on the T6.

Is there any chance of that thing coming here? If so I think I would finally have a really good reason to shave the badges on Ranger...

I know the bed is just for a test truck, but that front end is terrible... looks like that Mustang/Ranger mutant that rears its ugly head every once in awhile.

The front end is totally fake. Look at the fenders. The only thing I believe is the Ranger is the cab and I for one will welcome it as long as I can get an extended cab. Have no use for a full 4 doors.

From Autoblog.com...

As we've previously reported (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/02/spy-shots-aussie-market-2012-ford-ranger-spotted/), Ford engineers in Australia are hard at work on the next-generation Ranger pickup, reportedly codenamed T6. While the Ranger name is used on various Ford pickups sold around the world that are different from our long-in-the-tooth U.S. model, word has it that Ford may be leveraging this new global pickup platform to replace the latter truck here in the States when it goes away after the 2011 model year. These new spy shots lend some serious credence to those rumors, as this Ranger mule wasn't snapped in Australia... it was caught in Dearborn, MI near the headquarters of Ford Motor Company.

Never mind the Mazda-looking front end, which likely just hides the bones of this next-gen global Ranger. And while details are scare, talk of a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 175 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque refuses to go away. Check out the rest of the high-res spy shots in our gallery below and let us know if a new, more economical Ranger is just what the doctor for Ford in the States.

I don't mind the styling too much. I can even live with some of the Mazda nose, but please give us some real bumpers! However, I would think that some U.S. spec would dictate that we will have something.

I want more than the 175 hp too. That little will only likely make it feel abut as lethargic as my F150 does now. That's the reason I've dumped money into mods on my last two trucks... Not that my last Ranger needed it, stock it would have run circles around a F150 with a 4.6L, but only have 175 would be a step backwards for a Ranger. I think they should at least give us an option of something near 250 hp to be competitive with Nissan and Toyota.

I would think that the 1.6L would be the base and they would have a bigger engine with atleast 250 lb. ft. of torque.

175 hp is more than any Ranger engine aside from the 4.0 SOHC has had... and being a 1.3L it is probably the base engine.

Judging by Jim's pic, it kinda looks like the std cab, longbox 4x4 may be staging a comeback...

From the looks of the back of the cab the box will contour around it like the F-150's too.

Yes, one would think it will have a bigger optional engine, but in these days of government meddling....Government Motors, Chrysler/Fiat... one would wonder if there is some compromise being made anywhere to appease the osama administration.

However, Ford seems to be trying to stick to its guns by providing us with some vehicles they know people will buy. I curious to see what we'll end up getting from the others.... modern, Americanized replacements for the Yugo?

Well, knowing that they have a 350 ft. lb. torque engine available for the Taurus, I would think that they would offer something bigger than an engine with 180 ft. lb. of torque in the Ranger.

This is totally a guess, but the logical optional engine would be the 3.5L duratech that is currently offered in the taurus, edge, flex, and fusion sport. It makes roughly 265 HP and 270 Torque depending on which vehicle it's in. My guess is that the 4.0 SOHC finally gets tossed and the 3.5L will be the new base engine in the mustang.

They are just finishing the Ecoboost (turbocharged) version of the 3.5L and it will debut in the new Lincoln MKS, and then be featured in the new Taurus SHO. At 350 HP / 350 TQ, I see an awesome swap possibility for the new ranger, if it gets the 3.5 as an option.

Just so long as I can get a T-6 ranger with a manual transmission, I'll be happy.

Something to ponder.... Twin turbo 3.5L in a new Ranger.... possible reincarnation of a new down-sized lightning? Or perhaps a smaller version of a Raptor? There's possibilities for some interesting versions.

Hopefully someone from Ford is looking at these forums, there could be some easy sales made for them.

I guess we haven't seen them here because they chose to appease us with a Sport Trac instead. Granted, they're nice, but they just looked to heavy and low.

It had something to do with the A-pillar supports I believe...apparently they didn't meet "strict US safety crash tests". That and there are a lot more diesel cars and light duty pick up trucks over seas than there are here.

You're right, they didn't meet safety standards here and I guess they didn't want to do a costly redesign just to sell it here, though it would have been big time worth it if you ask me.

I see them every day! They just have a funny white and orange license plate that says Sonora. Its funny how they're "not safe" enough, but they can drive around on our streets all day long. Yay life down on the border.

looking at jim's last pic.....you can see that is not the right box. and look behind the door with the indent of cab....i think it is going to have the "wrap around" box like the 97-03 f-150s and the head light look like it may be taped in....if i squint and pock my eyelllit looks really good!

That would be a sweet deal as long as they don't make the new Ranger heavy as a pig.
