I have read numerous articles about mufflers that allow an engine to breath better with better performance. Is there any advantage in having a flowmaster muffler or similar added to my 2008 ranger? Will the engine exhaust sound be affected? Will the gas milage be affected?

OK! Its been a little over a month. I guess none of you guys have changed out the exhaust for a more agressive exhaust system. If I change the exhaust, I will be entering new territory.

Unfortunately most aftermarket catback exhaust systems give the duratec a ricer sound.

I have a flowmaster on my 2.3l duratec. it doesn't sound like a v8...but it doesn't sound anything close to a ricer.

Unfortunately, most people think bigger is better when dealing with exhaust, but it definately is not. A proper sized performance muffler will be of some benefit, perhaps most in your mpg - but very small there also. Keep the overall size of the muffler small (I like Magnaflow over Flowmaster), and your pipe size no larger than 2.25 inches.

I went with a 2 in to dual exiting vortex on my 4 banger.

It sounds like your putting your ear to a gopher hole after the family of gophers has been drinking castor oil.

But everybody recognizes my truck when it goes cracking into town through the shifts.

Summit racing sells a cherry bomb dual exit cat-back exhaust. Too much money for me as I'm a cheap bastard...
