Well the Mercury Mistake is done and gone! Down the road and out of my hands! I sold the thing for a mere $700.00 to some one who thought it was the car of his dreams!

The check engine light was on and the stupid O/D light was flashing off and on but the car did run pretty well. The engine is absolutely without a doubt mechanically sound, it's the tranny I was worried about. The thing started off like a snail but once it reached 25mph or above it moved like a gazelle. Fortunately for me the car is currently smogged at the DMV so all the guy has to do is show up with the transfer fees (possibly insurance) and he has a perfectly legit ride.

Now I have enough money to get my Ranger out of impound on Thursday (11/08/07) and move on with my life.

That's funny. When I worked at a Ford dealership, we used to call that car the Mercury Mistake, too. Then there was the Exploder, the Ford Expire, the Tortoise...

I was always partial to the F**kup (Focus).

I drove a rental Expire once in San Diego. Very appropriate nickname; the bloody thing could hardly make over the Coronado Bridge.

I'd seen a few of those Expires come into the shop on the hook. The Bic Disposable lighter of cars.
