The vac line on the distributor just plugs into the intake manifold...go topside if you can...but if the hose is missing then there is probably a connector without a plug on it and this will cause a vac leak...resulting in high idle, poor acceleration (because you do not have timing advance on the distributor if that hose is missing) and other symptoms...plug up any lower end vac plugs that are open and find one to plug into...like where the brake booster connects...there's usually a few up there...
