I tried removing my mass air flow sensor today to clean it and I cant get the screws loose. They want to strip. How can I loosen them? Anyone have this problem?

they are the tamper proof torx bits. you have to use the torx bit with the little hole in the middle. if you are using that though it should take no time at all to get off.

cut a slot in the top of the screw with a dremel and small off-cut disk. then use a regular screwdriver.

Do what I did. First off. Get the correct bit. Then, apply wd-40 since they are looking slightly corroded.

Then with correct bit and properly lubed up. Proceed to snap the first one off without trying too hard. Then. Try to remove whats left of the screw with a reverse screw/bolt removed tool. Fail horribly.

Then after wasting a hour with the above. Drill the little ****er right out and install a larger screw with a head that isn't going to snap off with a little torq. like a Robertson.

So it wont hurt anything to just drill out the screws if I cant get them out?

It didn't hurt mine. But I started with a fairly small drill bit and worked up through 2 sizes and I did it slowly since I wasn't interested in melting the plastic around the Maf.

if you rounded the pattern off the screw, just use needle nose vice grips and torque it out, those screws are not on there tight, drilling the screws out could booger up the threads.

I cleaned mine without taking it off.I used electrical contact cleaner and compressed air to dry it.No problems going on 8 mos.
