Hi,

I've been reading alot of messages on driveline clunking. But the problem I have is shuddering for a second or so when accelerating from a stop. I don't hear any clunking. It only does it after the drive system has been warmed up.

I have a 03 ranger 4x4 xlt with 17K miles. It appears to have the 4" aluminum shaft. It is still under extended warranty but the dealer can't reproduce the problem, and the service guy originally told me the splines needed lubed but later said I didn't have any to lube. I crawled under and there appears to be some sort of joint/boot between the shaft and the transmission. I would expect that to be the splines inside. I can wiggle it up and down a little.

Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks

The aluminum rear shaft on 4x4 supercabs does indeed have splines to lube.

But if you have a 2wd there's nothing there...
