I am in the process of rewiring a 1984 Ford Ranger with the 2.8.

My off road truck's EGR no longer works, and the wiring to the EGR position sensor is REALLY bad, as in INCHES of exposed corroded wire.

So here is a question, do I still need to rewire the EGR wiring even tho the EGR is broken, or do I just cut out the wires and seal it off?

Does the EGR senor send a signal even with a nonfunctioing EGR, and will my ECC-IV computer smart enough to tell the difference between a EGR that will not open vs a disconnected EGR electrical plug?

leave it unhooked, you won't see a diff. The egr on that old of one only works during steady cruise and the only thing it might do is cause some detonation, which can be fixed by taking 2 degrees or so out of initial timing or buy buying the next higher octane fuel
