Ok, I've read a lot of the posts on how the EGR works and ways to test it. I just want to make sure I am right.

I made sure the hole in the intake was clear. I've sprayed carb cleaner in the EGR itself. I hooked up a vac hose to the EGR itself and when I sucked on it, the motor would start to die. This is what it is suppose to do right? So my next thing to check would be the solenoid. Is there a way to test this? If it checks out good, what else could cause the problem? I have the code for the EGR and I'm tired of the CEL being on.

Thanks Guys,
James

what is the code. you can test the solenoid by making sure all vacuum lines are hooked up properly.. then ground out the ground wire for the solenoid, if the engine dies or runs terrible its working fine.

Does the code read "EGR insufficeint"? Then it's probably the sensor, not the valve.

What is the code saying? Not really much to go wrong with the EGR system.

Crap, I don't remember exactly. It's been a little while since I had the code read. I'll have to stop down at my buddies place again and throw the reader on it.

There is a sensor too? Where the hell is that at? The truck sat for 1 1/2 years before I bought it, has 185K on it. It runs great, nice and smooth, but I really am tired of looking at the CEL.

The sensor is the little unit attached to the upper intake on the drivers side. It has the the 2 hoses from the EGR pipe attached to it.
