4.0 Vin Id E/vin Id X ?

I sold my 92 2.3 ranger about two weeks ago and now I am looking to buy a 4.0 ranger I was looking at the specs. and the 1997 4.0 with the vin code VIN. ID. X has 160hp and the 1997 4.0 with VIN ID. E has 206 hp my question is I would like to get the one with 206 hp what model is it? does anyone know?

A 1997 will be VIN code X 4.0 OHV, not the VIN E 4.0 SOHC... The cam engine did not start until 2001 in the Ranger... The OHV engine had 155hp and 220 lb ft, but it also comes in a little lower in the powerband than the SOHC engine...

The "E" engine was only available in an Explorer from mid 1997 until 2001.
