I'm not from Vancouver. I'm up in Enumclaw/ Auburn.
There a few people from this board that go wheeling all the time.

I might try and get a run of some kind together for late June- early July, over at Tahuya. Have you been there before? Or probably Elbe, or Evans Creek as well. I know all 3 of those are somewhat of a drive for you. Someday I'd like to make it down to Tilamook State Forest as well!

I probably won't be wheeling until mid-late June. I've gone the past 6 weekends, and it's starting to dig into the wallet a bit... Not to mention I have a lot of school/ graduation stuff going on, so I will be done with school on June 12th, after that it's wheeling time!!!

I'd love to go down for the 4th, but, maybe it's just me, but I would MUCH rather go someplace for a 2 day weekend over a 3 day weekend ANY time. I don't care for all the people. I prefer a weekend with not so many people.

ya the 4th is definitly gonna be crowded to say the least. im definitly going so if i like it then if you guys want we could plan it over another weekend that wouldnt be so crowded.

HahnsB2: your close we should hit the trails sometime! ever been out to washougal near jones creek and larch mountain?

Not to be preachy or anything, but illegal wheeling is very bad for the sport...

I prefer to stick to the trails that are legal, so that I don't have to worry about being caught.

(by the way, I'm just going by what I interpreted from an earlier post)

Where ARE the legal wheeling areas around here?????? Only ones I'm aware of are Sand Lake and in the Tillamook Natl Forest(Brown's, Jordan Creek).......

I'm not sure about Oregon, but like you said, I know of TSF, and The coast's dunes, but I don't know of anything else offhand.

I know up here, there's Naches, Evans Creek, Elbe Hills, Tahuya, and up north even more, there Walker Valley and Reiter Pit.
I know I've heard of some places over in lower eastern WA too.
But, that's not Oregon...

EDIT: results from a little Google search!:

I'll definitely be heading out there this summer.

This summer it will be an entire weekend trip. During the summer I camp when I wheel, during the winter it is just day runs.
Or for me anyway.

I'm not positive when I would be able to go, because I graduate on the 15th of June, and then a little while after that I will probably be moving out and moving in with my cousin, but we'll see. That would put a halt on weekends for a bit I think.

But we'll have to try and get a run going!! Hopefully my cousin will have his Scout done by summer.

where i wheel no one has ever been harrassed. the only time we have problems is when people get drunk and do stupid shit up there. everything is all open public access the only part that would be illegal is some of the roads we drive have been tank trapped by loggers which just makes them funner but most of them havent been touched in the past 10 years. so as far as legality its all good and im all for staying legal. actually there was at one point a cop that was asking us to help them haul out a stolen truck for them but never got around to it cuz they couldnt get a tow truck to haul it in to town that day...

i'm down with camping... he still doesn't have that thing running? man he was almost done in march wasn't he?

dogboy
05-26-2009, 07:12 PM
Yeah... He was "supposed" to have it done back in December when we made the run to Tahuya. Right now he is just waiting for the guy at his work to get his ass to his house and help him setup the axles (he's regearing). Then he basically just needs to plum everything, and it should be wheelable, but he would still need to put in the rear floor.
And he has had other project as well. Like his offroad gokart that he is putting a 550 inline 4 out of an '80's Kawasaki street bike, in.

im in woodland, wa i hit larch, sunset, vancouver lake, jones creek, and davis peak (all frowened apon areas) but i would like to hit browns camp soon. how soon depends on when i can get my 86 ranger up again. im in the process of a d35 locked w/ 4.56,s and an 8.8 31 spline swap. i got the d35 but im still trying to get hands on the 8.8 if someone has any leads in the area that would help.

alatino, go to U-Pull It, $112 you can pull an 8.8 out of any explorer you want, and you can search for a limited slip and the correct gear ratio while your there...

4th of july, still planned to go to browns, all are welcome. other than that i NEED a transfercase, if anyone can locate one for me for cheap that would be great, then we can meet up and go wheelin anytime. thanks, later...

i now have a 1354E for sale... in case anyone wants it. lol.

In regards to getting an expo axle.....the upullit yard on Foster or the one in Damascus seem to be the ones with all the 95+ expos. Hit it on 1/2 off weekend like me and score a expo axle for about $60!

Dogboy...I've got a '87 waggy D44 sitting in my back yard. $100 it's yours. Complete minus one hub and brake and stub shaft. You'd probably throw on chevy outers for highsteer anyway right?

We'll see in a couple weeks. I need to find an Explorer first, I don't really want to get parts for something I don't have, and that is still just a "plan". I'll let you know though. But just curious, what is the gear ratio in it?

Fx4wannabe01
06-23-2009, 03:20 AM
I wanna say 3.30? is that a waggy ratio? I really think that's it.

dogboy
06-23-2009, 05:38 PM
As of right now, think my plans have changed. Instead of wheel an Explorer and commuting with my Ranger, I think I might be wheeling the Ranger and getting a car to Commute with (really, it's the smarter way to do things).

If I change my mind I'll PM you though.

Yeah, don't blame you for wanting to go fullwidth.
And thanks for offering it too.
(when I posted that originally, I had the intention of getting a Sploder in the VERY near future (like over the weekend), but that never happened)

looks like im gonna be workin on my shit right up to july 4th, we'll see how plans make it but idk if i really wanna drive all the damn way to browns, especially right after i get done rebuilding my front end and installing a new tranny and transfer case. anyone wanna come up to the washougal camas area?

This is a bit late but curently there is no legal 4x4 area in south west washington but our group has been working with dnr
to map out trails wich hopfully will be soon.
With the efort of law enforcement they and we have had cameras all over up in that area to catch the vandles and ill legal wheelers that keep us from getting the trls open sooner. We ask that you think about what you are doin before you go tare the woods up.

it may not be that soon but it was in the last few stages to be started. But now there is a real big fire going on in the same area where we were going to put trails so it might be changed for everyone. Our group does night patrols and take pics to send to the state and the have been getting addresses and showing up at thier front doors with a sitation in hand. There not sure if this fire was started by one of three huge fires we reported sat. night or a stolen truck that was torched

the update on the trails in what we call the Yacolt Burn area. We are closer to getting started on the actual building of the trails in that area, its been aproved and in the last stages of S.E.P.A. and legaslation we sould be actuly building trails in the spring of 2010.
It would have been alot faster if it wernt for all the off roaders that took part in destroing the Ritter trail's. Then not helping or caring about the future of our sport or hobby. Thanks to all the pepole of D.N.R. that we have worked with and have helped this happen. Everyone go out and help your local off road groups it helps having pepole who care what happens in the future to the woods and not just for 4x4's but quads, side by side's and all other user groups that enjoy the out doors.
