What kind of job do you want? Shoot legit paint and you will have a better finish without streaks. Flat black shows spray pattern marks and can look streaky when shot from a spray can due to the inconsistent pressure. Regular spray gun keeps a consistent pattern, velocity and volume.

i would use UA (that's the paint code for basic black from ford) and then use a clear with a flatting additive in it it will be flat black and be a regular 2 stage paint job that will hold up to anything and as for the paint manufacturer. ppg's omni line is cheap and really good and always shot from a gun, and spray cans make it look like $h!t uneven color spread and u can get runs really easy on something that big

if you choose to go the spray can route I can give you some advice - use the Krylon cans with the line-shaped spray pattern. If you use something with the usual round pattern, it will be streaky and look like crap. The wide Krylon pattern makes it much easier to get a uniform coat.
yeah i saw a civic that was done with semi gloss krylon, it didnt fade to grey like the flat does. and covers better. i wanna do satin body. gloss black rims and a gloss black hood....maybe. and gloss black bumpers.

i dont mean to thread jack but it kinda relates. if u use a regular clear with a flat black what does it do? liek a shiney flat? im wondering cause i wanna go flat black as well

If you use a regular clear coat without a flattening agent it will just be gloss black. Your basecoat black will be flat when you spray it before the clear goes on anyways, its the top coat that determans the finally scheen. I have had really good luck with Kirker Chassis Black single stage paint... doesn't streak and has been very durable. Oh and the best part, its cheap! I bought a gallon kit for $55 at a swap meet. Good luck.

traditionally it is done with Black Oxide Primer surfacer and applied with a gun.
then you use a mild wax to help it protect.
at least that is the old hotrod way of doing it, fairly cheap, looks great, super super easy to fix if ya bang it up a little bit
