What Kind of Tonneau?

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 09 FX4 and I'm already headed upstate for a little camping trip BUT I need a tonneau cover. Does anyone have any suggestion on what brand is good and pros/cons of Roll up and Hard top and such.

Any help is appreciated :icon_cheers:

A locking hard tonneau is going to provide the most protection, but they cost a lot. A painted one can be thousands of dollars. Also, unless it can fold completely out of the way, a hard tonneau could limit the size of stuff you can put in the bed.

Soft tonneaus typically can be rolled completely out of the way, and they are less expensive than hard tonneaus. The downside is that they really don't offer much protection from theft. Anyone can get a soft tonneau open if they want to. Also, unsnapping them gets kind of old. Basically, they keep stuff dry. Good quality ones start at around $200 or so. I think I paid about $175 for the Extang Black Max I had on my old Ranger.

There are lots of tonneau choices out there. I would just browse eBay and websites like truckaddons.com and 4wheelparts.com and see what you like.

i had an extang full tilt on my last ranger and loved it. got the snapless, had it four years, and never rolled it up. just flip it up and you have access to your bed. want it out of the way, it takes two minutes to remove by one person. kinda pricy, a little less than $400, but i thought worth it
