View Full Version : How much music do you have?

Well I was have an iPod and hate how music is not labeled correctly when you download it. (I don't do the illegal stuff anymore but have a lot left over). I am kinda OCD when it comes to my music.
So for the past couple a days I have been organizing my music.
Here is what I have so far!
2051 (118 Albums, 3.9 Days, 9.86 Gig)
Look down at the bottom middle and that is just a fraction of my collection, got about 200 more gigs to organize.
So how big is you library?

11,168 songs as of today... Admittedly, I don't know EVERY word to EVERY song, nor do I even like all of them, but I upload an entire CD whenever I get one... Plus, a large classical music selection also...
Well since Otis Redding didn't make that many albums, I'm a little behind ya'll.

I just go through and pick what songs I know/like and burn them onto mp3 CD's... I'll usually add one or two songs I don't know from each CD I pick from... I've yet to get one of them newfangled mp3 players... I like CD's, haha...

Over 11,000 songs? Assuming they all came loaded from a CD and at an average of 12 songs per CD that comes out to 930 CDs worth of music. How long have you been working on that collection?
I've got 2 gigs on my iPod, the max it will hold, and about 3 gigs total on my computer and it's all the music I like with nothing I don't.

I keep every CD I've ever bought, so I'd say a good 10 years, they ALL aren't ripped from CD's though, I have a large collection of original popular and orchestra recordings... I also received a large donation of CD's from one of my HS teachers, I think it was about 400+ CD's... My personal CD collection contains somewhere between 6-700 CD's...
I also have 400 something .wav files that are pulled from famous TV shows (theme songs, famous saying, presidential speeches and whatnot)... So, technically I guess I only have 10,700 something songs...

12 days, 21hours 1min and 53seconds
4405 pieces of music or 37.52Gb
This is all "active" audio that I actually listen to.
that's all on my F: drive which is a 60Gb drive that I use ONLY
for storing music playback.
I have approximatly twice as much on my 160Gb G: drive
and it's all backed up with triple redundancy, including
on a pair of 80gb drives that are physically disconnected
from my computer.

also, i never figured out how to do a screenshot, is it possible with xp media center edition without buying additional software?
Yep, hit the "PrintScreen" or "PrtScr" button by the home key on your keyboard. Then open MS Paint, and do Edit>Paste.
Voila.

Probably 400 LP's and around the same number of CD's. No mp3's here, I care about sound quality.

sounds system matters more than mp3. an mp3 encoded in 256 is plenty good enough for what most people have
i love it when apple freaks talk about the itunes lossless format and how much better it is, and then listen through the crappy earbuds that come with it (not directed at you)
i could only tell the difference when an mp3 has some crappy encoding, like 96 or 128, and i just listen on headphones so it doesnt matter much to me personally

One truck has mud tires and the other has dual exhaust, so right off the bat my sound studio isn't too hot. It sounds good enough for me, even sitting still I can't tell the difference between it and a CD, dunno what a LP is. I was impressed how much clearer it was on a MP3 player vs on a regular radio... I gave up on paying $10-15 per CD for one or two good songs awhile ago.
I have 3.74GB filled on my 30G Zune, and that is with a couple pictures and movies too.

LP traditionally means a full length vinyl record, but most folks now-a-days just use it to refer to a CD.

I feel like I'm the only one using a USB jump drive for music in my truck haha. 8 gigs at my fingertips with a nearly 4" lcd screen is nice. I need a bigger drive though... I need some more cow bell!

Snap now Milje has an MP3 player. Went to get a new phone on Saturday, deal of the week was the Palm Centro was free, so I got that.
I guess I'll have to put some music on it. I guess that means I'll have to put some music on my computer first :D

+1... You would actually be surprised at the differences in quality of different formats though, but those differences you could really only tell on a high end (say studio monitor) system... I did all the tracking for my band and had a 'decent' studio set-up, and I could actually tell differences between different formats, not on any other system though, unless it's an mp3 less than 196... Although, I did go and listen to our tracks at one of Belmont University's rooms and man, did it ever blow away my dinky little system... It was so clear I could hear my watch click in the background of my guitar tracks during quieter sections (the pickups picked up the movement of the metal pieces inside my watch)...

wow. that must be a damn good setup in there to pick up the watch.
as for me, i have about 9 gigs on my Ipod and i know most of the words to the songs on there. i share it with my mother and she has some weird stuff on there that i dont care for but otherwise i can tell you the song and the artist and most of the words.
edit: i still love the sound quality of the LPs. to me, nothing beats the sound quality of an old vinyl record on a turntable,

It wasn't a good set up that picked up watch noise, it was a good monitor system that made it audible... Take your watch hand and put it near an electric guitar pickup that's plugged in and you'll certainly hear it if it's quiet enough...
