ok I need to know which transmissions will bolt to my truck. I have a 88 b2. I know where a 3.0 transmission is and I was wondering if it would bolt up or if any other v6 tranny would bolt to my 2.9. Any information would be really helpful thanks.

3.0 trannies only bolt to 3.0 motors i believe. you can use any trans from a 2.3, 2.9, or 4.0 and the bellhousings should be the same.

The 2.3 won't fit either.

The 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0 are the ones that share the trans bolt pattern.

If you're buying a trans anyway, try to get the M5OD.

It's the best trans offered from the factory in an RBV.

thanks cjrex, i must have confused the 2.8l with the 2.3 (even though they look nothing alike and i know this). i agree, use the m50d and youll never regret it, unless you have a peg leg or other pirate like disorder such as a hook hand

I have a 1990 2.9L 2wd 5-speed that needs to be replaced. I found a good deal on a 3.0 transmission. Can I use the 2.9 Bell housing on the 3.0 tranny and drop it in? Thanks for the help.

No, it's not removeable. Your best bet is to look for a 4.0 transmission at this point.

Ah, now I feel dumb...Thanks for the quick reply. We're pulling the transmission this weekend, probably something I would have learned then.
