After replaceing the thermostat on my 1993 2.3 L twice it still barely warms up to the first mark past cold.I was wondering if I need to go back to a Ford part instead of aftermarket.

Generally speaking, I've found that the first line equates to about 185*F and the N is around 195*F.

Do you get heat out of the heater core?

The heater puts out good heat, it may be hot enough. Before I replaced the originial Ford thermostat the gauge ran almost straight up.
