I have a 1994 mazda b 4000 with the dana 35 ttb front end. I went through some mud the other day and now the front end locks up in 4x4. The front diff. has been leaking for a little while but i make sure it always has gear oil in it. In 4x4 it makes a grinding/squeaking sound then it jerks to a stop. I can power through it but it just does it again. I cant make it more than five feet without it locking up. What could cause this?

Sounds like a grenaded u-joint, ring and pinion and/or spider gears. I wouldn't drive it any more than what you have.

Check all the u-joints and the slip-joint for damage. If none, then disassembly/inspection of the front suspension/axle will have to be performed to locate the problem.

It works fine in 2x4 but i dont want to take any chances so I have been driving my other car. how hard is it to remove the front diff. for inspection?

It's a fairly involved proceedure. As said before, check your u-joints first. If that's not the problem, it's time to pull the pig and look inside.
