hi my buddy changed a oil pan in the 302 and after starting it up, it had no oil pressure and clicking at the bottom of the motor...is this the oil pump, thats what we were told, and could he have put the shaft for the pump in wrong? let meknow thanks.

I have never heard of that happening just by changing the pan. If you took out the oil pump you may not have the shaft engaged in the bottom of the distributor.

its possible the pump is too close to the bottom of the pan, starving it of oil. pull the pan and hold it up to the black and see how far away the pump is from the pan.

if you messed with the oil pump its most likely the shaft ...

Very possible. The pickup may be too long.

a little silly puddy in the oil pan where the pick up lands can help check clearance also... does sound more like a shaft issue to me also though if the pump was out.

well he did take the pump out and the only thing that has been changed was the oil pan, everything else just put back where is was or where he thot it went, i heard that he could pull shaft out if he removes the distributor and use a skinny magnet and pull it out from there...can anybody tell me if thats true?

well, that COULD be true, if the motor had already been rednecked. the oil pump shafts come with a retainer ring on them and install from the bottom of the motor, above the oil pump... so if the dizzy is removed the shaft wont accidentially be pulled out of the pump. the "redneck" i speak of is when some people work on their motors they remove the retainer ring... if yours has been removed then you CAN take the shaft out the top... but be forewarned... getting it all back together thru the dizzy hole can be a PITA!

haha alright ill be working on it with my buddy tomorrow, ill c how it goes thanks
