Newbie suspension Question...

Im planning to either put a Tuff country 4-inch suspension lift on my truck with 33's or I will put a 3 inch body lift with 31's or 32's on my 91 extended cab 4X4 ranger. What would be easier? And what else would i need to add to the truck make the truck safe and driveable?:icon_welder:
 
If you are on a budget, I would do the body lift and a set of coil spacers, or even leveling coils. If you're not on a tight duget, then skip the Tough Country and go straight to a SkyJacker kit. Skyjack is much better quality from EVERYTHING I've heard.

I don't remember if it is Tough Country, or Rough Country, or both, that have the drop "plate" not drop "bracket". The drop plate is a poor design, and if you have a D35 front end, then you run a very good chance of punching a hole in your differential becuase of the plate.

By doing the 3" body lift and coil spacers, you will essentially get 4-5" of lift in the front, and 3" in the back, which would be better than just a 4" lift. The tires have clearance issues in the front, so only lifting the rear 3" should not be a problem at all out back, and in the front you will actually have 4-5" of lift (combining the body lift and leveling).

That is my two cents worth, and what I would do if I were you.
 
body lift is easier i would say,but you dont get much with one other than being able to add a bigger tire. it all depends on how much you want to spend. dogboy said it perfect
 
Thanks for the input, what size tires do you think i could get on there without fender trimming or anything? 33's?
 
when i just had my 3" body lift i could fit 31s easy. i think you might have to do a little trimming to get the 33s but should work depending on width. ive got a 5.5 super lift,coil spacers(1")with my 3" body now and run 33/13.5/15 tsl's off road and 35 bfg mud t/a's on the street.
 
from everything ive seen u can put 33 with the 4" suspension, and i have 31"s on my stock 96 with no triming and no problems
 
the gen 2s and 3s vary a little. my buddy can run 33s on his 94 with a 3" body lift and there was no way i was going to on my 91.
 
I would say that it all depends on what your going to do with the truck.

Mall crawling/Always on the street, I'd say body lift and some spacers..

If your actually going to be doing some trail riding, I'd do the cheap 4" suspension.

If your going to be doing a lot of 4 wheeling, rock crawling etc, I'd go with the expensive skyjacker.
 
I'd like to start a lil' off roading but right now i just ride the streets. Should i get bigger coils? or should i just get new stock ones (my stock coils are shot) and then put the spacers in? With the body lift do i need good cab mounts or do those come out when i put the lift on?
 
And can i buy new adjust-a-shocks with that too (stock shocks also shot), im planning on 32's or 33's would i need to buy bigger shocks?
