Need some input form those with better knowledge of this engine. I've worked on various cars for years now, but i've never seen anything like this.

WTF is wrong with this picture?!??!??!?!

Oil pan gasket - this doesn't look right (with pic)

To me it looks like the front of the oil pan gasket is migrating outwards. I'm tempted to try to loosen the bolts in hopes of pushing it back in place, but I think I already know this would be a futile effort. I honestly don't see how a proper gasket would push out THAT much, though.

Input please?!?!??!

I found this while finding a few other problems and i'm not sure I even want to bother keeping this truck anymore. (don't ask about the balljoints ..... and shocks mounts :bawling: ).

PATIA!

Why do you think lossening bolts and repositioning gasket will not work? I'd try it. Looks like a little leakage as well - is it leaking?

Nope, no signs of leaking at all.

My hesitation with trying is based on past experience with the odd rubber gasket, such as the one in question, which after years of service (my truck has 280+K kms on it) becomes squished a certain way and prefer to stay that way. The moment you remove the gasket it shows the way it prefers to stay distorted and then never fits in the same way again. Past efforts have resulted in leaks which require the job being done a second time.

I've not had experience with recent Ford oil pan gaskets, so i'm not sure what i'm up against really.

if its not leaking i would just leave it alone, when it becomes a problem deal with it.
This isnt always the best way to go about things but in this case i think its best.

I agree if the gasket has become hard, but if still pliable it may work. Bottom line is it's not leaking so leaving it alone would be the best.

Common to see gaskets being pushed out the front of the pan on 3.0's. My ranger is the same way, and still is not leaking, but my pan is beginning to head south. Replacing it can be a real pain. That's nothing out of the ordinary. Wait for it to start leaking. If it's not broke don't fix it!

Alrighty then, proceeding to leave it the **** alone. :icon_thumby:

My '91 Ranger, '95 Taurus and '02 Ranger, all having the 3.0 looked like that. My pops said his '92 3.0 Ranger was like that too.

None of those leaked oil.

Yours is fine.

Same exact thing happened to mine. I loosened up the oil pan bolts and pushed the gasket back into place, I got lucky, it's been 3 years and still holding.
