Got a check engine light on yesterday. Had it read today. Only 1 code, P0133: slow response (heated oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1).

Probable Causes:
Oxygen sensor defective
Fuel system running rich or lean - check other codes first.

Looks like a bad O2 sensor but I wanted to know if there were any other possiblities to check out before I go spend 50 bucks and attempt to change this sensor.

Weird the light just went off as I was driving a little while ago. Is this a sign that the sensor is going bad? Or is there something else going on?

Hi Kelly,

I just replaced that same sensor. I cleared the code and CEL first, but the CEL came back on after about 10 miles. After about 20 miles, it turned off by itself (as I was coming home from the Ford parts dept). I'd already spent the $97 for the sensor, so I just replaced it. Took less than 15 mins. 500+ miles now and the CEL has stayed off.
