yes i turned dodge diesel but still love rangers. reading a small article from one of my diesel mags it states that ford rangers will be going out in 18 month's unless they get a certain demand. if they get the demand we will be getting the ford ranger back with new combo's. such as a 2.5L diesel with 16 valves rated at 141hp at 3500 and 243 lb-ft of torque at 1800 and a 3.0l diesel rated at 154 hp at 3200 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm. Also a crew cab in both 2wd and 4wd. the only catch is it will be the other ranger design. the American style will be gone for good. heres how they look:

I dont think thats a bad design at all. Its pretty similar front, and the cabs are a little more square.

I dunno, I don't really like that design. I think the Crew Cab S10's look ugly too.
Maybe if they redesigned it, added more curves. Like a mini sport track. But with a normal length bed of course.

Had to do a quick photoshop of what I was thinking.

You gotta admit, that looks pretty good. Too big (Dakota sized) but with a little downsizing.. who knows. I think it would make a pretty good Ranger II. Rear wheel well/axle needs to go forward more.. it's just a tad too far back.

I'm not sure they'll be the same as the pic you posted. That style stopped in '05 or something in favour of a newer design. I think it's a bit closer to the American look.
I had an XLT version of the truck pictured. It was nice.

If youve ever been overseas tehy actually look real stupid. Alot like the very basic 93-94 model years before ford really smoothed it out. But there is hope for them. Alot of avail mods. And they still come in 5spd.

The 93/94 Rangers look exactly the same as the 95-97 Rangers. Just a different interior and upgraded components.

All they need to do is give the current Ranger some new engines and add a SuperCrew option, but keep the same body.

Safari Snorkel has a snorkel for the diesel rangers over seas I think that cool, would like to convert one to Bio diesel so it would be like .40 cents a gallon to run:icon_bounceblue:

My uncle had one just like that for his construction company. Then again, diesels are everywhere in England.

I'd rock the first one in a heartbeat! The rest look too roundy to me, and I like the squarer look, more trucklike and less SUVish. The first new diesel ranger driveline (if it ever happens) that get's wrecked around here is getting gutted and put in my truck.

This was my Ranger as mentioned before. The 2.5TD is a great engine.
I don't think you can find many larger vehicles here that aren't diesel. I think it's just the American imports like my Explorer and Blazer that are petrol. I get asked all the time if they're diesel or not.
My friends have diesels for off roading and such. They just fit a raised air intake and then they can drive through water up to their windows.

Pass, I ain't getting tied into paying twice as much for fuel this summer as I as I will with my gas burner.
Modern US diesels have as much if not more stuff to go wrong than a gas engine to get thru emissions. And they will spit french fry juice back in your face... it has to be ultra low sulfer diesel.
You could get by with it on older ones, but the newer ones will not like you for it.

If a diesel 4 door Ranger (or just diesel ranger) were to come to the states it would be my next truck:icon_thumby:. As is though, my next truck would be a Nissan Frontier:sorrysign:.

HI !
First post (comming over from FTE)
So when will the small diesels be comming over to the US?
Any idea on the mileage we could expect?
I'm hoping for 30 to 40 MPG Highway...
In addition to my Ranger I also have an '06 F-350 SD so I'm very comfortable with diesels (that plus my construction equipment!)

I would buy a new one if they would make something like this for the US,
http://www.ford.com.mx/vehicles/gallery/gallery.asp?idModel=RAN§ion=EXT
Other wise I will keep driving my 94 4.0 ranger with 337K miles. It has been a really good truck.

if ford does bring the diesel rangers over its prolly gunu be around 2011.
from what i understand the mileage is around 25.
should have bought a cummins! lol jk

I would buy a diesel ranger in a heartbeat as long as it's just not available ONLY in a 4-door. I would prefer a supercab with available manual transmission. Ford would have the market cornered in the U.S. They need to wake-up and smell the money and give the people what they want.

I would hope to see it closer to 30. A guy I work with has an 06 cummins Ram, 6 speed 4x4, mega cab. He averages 23mpg doing 65 on the highway. The cummins is a much larger engine moving a much larger, heavier vehicle. It would be extremely disappointing if a diesel Ranger could only best it by 2mpg.

25?? I get 26 MPG in my 2.3L gas ranger now
A small diesel should easily get 30+ mpg. Otherwise why buy one??
I'm currently getting between 15 (average) to 20 (highway) MPG in my '06 F-350SD and that thing weighs about 8500#
my parents excursion will get about 24-25 on the highway, thats with the 7.3 in it. buy a TD ranger will have to get about 35-40. A VW TDI now gets 58mpg for the 09-10 models. my 03 tdi beetle gets 40 with a auto in it. the technology is there, just have to get thru the governmental bs and i will be one of the first to owna diesel ranger!!!

in my local paper there was a article about the new vw vanagon that is only available in europe. It weighed 6500 lbs.and was powered by a inline 5 diesel with 300 ft.lbs. and 170 or so hp. It got 30 mpg. A 2.5 inline 4 cyl in a 4000 lb. ranger should get well over 30. If it doesnt then the engineers are terrible. I guess we will see if they make it or break it.

chico4554
06-29-2009, 01:19 PM
said it went 0-60 in around 10 sec. Not very fast but light years better then the old vanagons. Dont forget the 300 lb.ft. of torque...

It is more than half a ton heavier than my F-150, has slightly less torque and almost 100 fewer ponies. Milage is nice, but so is keeping up with traffic and not taking forever and a day to get up to speed.

i think that with the economy and the gas situation, we will see more mid size and less full size trucks .
look at chevy their bankrupt or close to it focusing on their v8s and stuff never looking at the reality...
soo i think we will get more ford rangers with diesel and whole bunch more cool stuff hybrid or w.e

Ford is watching how GM and others and hurting themselves and the buyers and learning from that. Hence why I love Ford!

You also have to think about driving conditions in other countries... There are probably far fewer times you have to get on the interstate and do 70-75mph... So the 170 hp is probably no big deal...

if ford brought a diesel ranger to market, that got more than my current 35-38 mpg.
i would give my '83' diesel ranger to my son.
and buy a new one.
ford may make a mistake, by not bringing out the diesel, before cancelling the ranger.
a diesel ranger is what we need and want.

They're not just in England, they are all over Europe. I have lived in Belgium for the last 3 years and every fricken motor out there is Diesel! It is hard to not find one. Those Rangers are quite sharp as matter of fact, I have driven one in the Ford dealership just 20 minutes from my house! Smooth, quiet, and quick!! I have thought for some time that America needs to get on the ball when it come to Diesels and matching up with Europe, they have been doing it for ages!!! Great gas milage as well, blows any gasoline engine outta tha water!

The user you quoted said 0-60 in 10 seconds and (I never timed it) but I believe it takes the 4.0 Ranger 8 seconds. I'll take a 2 second hit for the extra torque and gas mileage. Comparing a Ranger to an F150 seems silly to me; different trucks with different purposes.

The van was said to be heavier than a F-150 (let alone a Ranger), the only reason I brought the F-150 up. The one I found on the website is only a tad heavier than my loaded to the hilt Ranger with two big guys in it with a full tank of gas (About 3700 and some change).
It has about the same hp as a OHV 4.0, 70 more lb-ft of torque... whoopie.
According to VW's website, the best they can must is a tad over 12 sec 0-60, and depending on options they can certainly do worse.
http://www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk/transporter/performance-figures/
We all need to slow down anyway. My favorite thing to drive was my 68' VW bus. I would just get into a stone groove my man and slide on down the road. People didn't tailgate me because even an impatient idiot can see there is no point to getting 4" away from the bumped of a '68 VW bus and honking.
My schoolbus is 4X heavier than an F150 and only has 185hp. I don't get all impatient when I drive it. It's more about the skill--getting the drive train floating so you can pull it out of gear without even a tiny shake, getting the revs just right so it snicks back in--toeing the pedal--it's a stone groove.

Finally someone is bringing a compact diesel pick-up to the U.S. market. Maybe others will take notice and join in. Pretty good warranty too.

Oh I know it's not the best looking truck, but if it sells well maybe the other companies (Ford for one) will see there is a market for diesels and jump on board.

If those trucks weren't hideously ugly I'd sign up. They look like they borrow from the Explorer, B-Series, European Ranger, and Jeep all at the same time.

I know that. I used to live in Germany and Portugal aswell. A lot of the cars are diesels and get far better mileage than the Prius which everyone is so worked up about.
The most important option they could offer, in my opinion, is a manual transmission. It seems most companies, including Ford are doing away with them in favor of the new 6spd slushboxes or CVTs. The F150s don't have them and they are talking about discontinuing them on the Super Duty models. Then I'd hope for a turbo diesel.
