I have a freind who states that he has a 1990 full size ford truck with a Mazda 5 speed in It connected to a 302. Is this possible? Are the 302 and the 4.0 the same bolt pattern wise?

The FS Ford trucks came with the Mazda M5OD-R1 manuals and the RBV's came with the Mazda M5OD-R2 manuals, so yes it's very possible. The 4.0 and 5.0 do not share a common bellhousing bolt pattern.

you have your numbers backwards.

the M5OD - R1 is what we have in our Ranger Based Vehicles.

the M5OD - R2 is what came in the full size trucks.

they are both mazda trannys and are completely different. the bolt patterns are different and they share none of the internals.
