tranny problems need help!

Hi I'm new to the site. I'm trying to figure out whats wrong with my tranny, I have a 97 4.0 2wd ranger I got the truck with no tranny but the guy gave me a tranny out of a explorer, I put it in and I have all the forward gears but no reverse, fluid levels good also, I'm thinking it might be electrical but I have 12 volts running into the tranny, I'm lost need help or some ideas. Thanks

Sounds like he gave you a bad transmission. You could try to adjust the bands and go from there. the band you need to go after is the one closest to the rear of the transmission. It will look like a 2 sided bolt with a 19mm jamnut. Adjust that band to see if reverse comes back. I don't think it will though but it is worth a try.
