I have my tailgate stuck closed the left side opens but the right side is stuck in the shut position. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

mine sometimes gets stuck and i have to make sure it's like FULLY closed... so i push it in, and then try to open it again.
works everytime.
but sounds like yours is probably worse than that.

Take your panel off, the handle could be rusted and broken off.

In the newer (1998 and up) Rangers sold in brasil, these metal pieces (circuled in red) are made from plastic!

from the outside of the tailgate open it pushing the lock with a plain screw driver, i carryed one in the old ranger cuz the handle was broken lol!

What it was was the mechanism on the right side got bent a little. Had to use the BFH to get it open. Bent the part to the right spot did some fine tuning and now it works.

I'm still looking for a tailgate in my color, all I really need is the handle mechanism, but the tailgate is covered in rust so I wouldn't mind the whole thing being new.

I hate to resurrect an old topic, but does anyone know where to find those yellow tabs? One of mine broke off and the other one is pretty beat. Workers at A-zone and Napa can't find the part in their system. JY are not an option since all of them take the tailgates from the trucks and stack them up for resale. They don't let the public mess around with them (I tried taking emblems once, and they didn't let me) I don't want to go to the dealer, but it looks as this will be my only option.
Autozone, Napa, Advance Auto Parts, Pep-boys and etc usually carry those parts but the lazy turds they hire don't know because they don't list them in the computers. If you go out onto the floor in the isles and find the "HELP" parts section (red packaged odd parts). Sometimes you have to buy an entire assortment of clips, which one day the rest will come in handy anyways. And don't bother asking them for the help section cuz most of the time they don't even know they have one lol.

Yeah mine is also screwed up one of those arms thingy came off and can't remove it cuz the bolts are stripped. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
