EEC-IV, KOER, Code 44

1990 Ranger, 2.3, 5-sp, a/c, ps, miles unknown high miles 160K or 260K, long block replaced with 30K, I need help or direction on a starting point with code “44”, Problems in Thermactor Air Control System, My question is does the engine use a Pump? And if so where are the controls located.

Also have the code 41 EGO volt signal always lean, (note EGO is new aftermarket).

Was the 44 generated on a KOEO or KOER test?

Have you re-tested? You don't have a air injection system and shouldn't be getting that code.

The 41 can be caused by incorrect fuel pressure and also by duff wiring as well as a bad O2 sensor. Check to make sure that your actually getting a voltage (0-1 volt permissible but should be fluctuating from .3 to .8 with the truck running) reported to the computer on pin 29. And that you have a good clean ground at pin 49.
