1990 Ranger, 2.3, 5-sp, a/c, ps, miles unknown high miles 160K or 260K, long block replaced with 30K, I need help or direction on a starting point with code “44”, Problems in Thermactor Air Control System, My question is does the engine use a Pump? And if so where are the controls located.

Also have the code 41 EGO volt signal always lean, (note EGO is new aftermarket).

Thanks for any comments!

Was the 44 generated on a KOEO or KOER test?

Have you re-tested? You don't have a air injection system and shouldn't be getting that code.

The 41 can be caused by incorrect fuel pressure and also by duff wiring as well as a bad O2 sensor. Check to make sure that your actually getting a voltage (0-1 volt permissible but should be fluctuating from .3 to .8 with the truck running) reported to the computer on pin 29. And that you have a good clean ground at pin 49.
