i'm puttin a 5.0 out of a '95 mustang in my '88 bII. The motor came with a flexplate and torque converter, but i don't know what trans he was running. would i need the flexplate and converter from the c4 i get? also, if i find a transfer case such as an np205 or a dana 20 seperate from the trans, and a 4x4 c4 that doesn't have a transfer case with it, will any of those transfer cases bolt to any c4? or do i need to find a c4 that already has the transfer case with it? thanks for any help!

Yes you need the C4 torque converter and possibly the flexplate. You can get adapters for the D20, D300, BW1350, Atlas, and a bunch of Toyota t-cases.

so if i don't get a transmission with a transfer case already on it, i would need an adapter? thats what i'm trying to get around because those adapter cost more than a trans.

It depends if the adapter went with the t-case or comes with the tranny. If the tranny doesn't come with one then you will need it... I would try to get a C4 from an Early Bronco and a j-pattern Dana 20 since you can twin stick those. They are also fairly easy to find and I think you can get a 4:1 gear kit for them too.

ok, i'll try to find one of those in a the junkyard. so i guess a late 70's, early 80's bronco? would f-150/f-250's of the same year have the same trans's/trans cases?

73-77 Bronco. Most 70's fullsize trucks/Broncos will have a C6 and a 205 or a 203...some also have divorced D24's but you probably want to stay away from those. 80's stuff is going to be almost all C6's and 205s, late 80's will be C6 or AOD with a 208.

You could do a small block C6 and a 205. Better trans than a C4 and easier to find.

i was wondering about using a c6 but i figured you couldn't because it wasn't in the tech section. thanks a lot for the help! now i'll keep an eye out for a c4/dana 20 or a c6/np205.

No prob. Yeah, you can do a C6 behind a 5.0...just get the flexplate and torque converter with it.

The 205 is cool, 'cuz you can twin stick that one too :D
