Reverse light problem

I just got my new LED bulbs for my license plate and third brake light so i can seal it up and not have it leak. the problem is though that the reverse lights on the brake light dont light up. i took them out and put them back in the other way thinking it would help since it got my license plate bulbs working but nothing. any ideas?

One thing to check is the reverse switch on the driver's side top of the (Mazda) transmission. If you jump the two wires and the reverse lights work, you have a bad switch. Only takes a minute or two to check. Can't remember where the switch was on the auto trans.

You said the reverse lights on the brake light do not work. Does the third brake light have a clear light on each side and are they the lights that don't come on?
If so they are cargo lights and do not work with the back up lights (unless the system has been modified.) They will come on with the dome light when it is turned on with the switch on the dash.
If those are not the lights you were referring to I apologize for interrupting.

thanks for the help Flat Toy. i had always assumed that those just worked as reverse lights for some reason. went out and flipped on the dome light and sure enough, they popped on.
